Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 150 g brown onion, cut into quarters
  • 2 rindless bacon rashers (approx. 100 g), cut into pieces (1 cm)
  • 40 g day old bread, crusts removed
  • 2 sprigs fresh flat-leaf parsley, leaves only
  • 30 g Parmesan cheese, cut into pieces (3 cm) (optional)
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs
  • 1 tsp ground sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

Red pepper sauce

  • 20 g olive oil
  • 150 g brown onion, cut into quarters
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 20 g sultanas (see Tips)
  • 100 g ripe tomatoes, cut into quarters
  • 2 - 4 tsp Chicken stock paste, to taste (see Tips)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 250 g roasted whole red pepper strips
  • 100 g water
  • 4 pita breads, warmed, to serve (see Tips)
  • crispy fried onions, to serve (optional)
