  • 6 oz unsalted butter, in pieces, softened to room temperature, plus extra to grease
  • 2 oz vegetable oil
  • 12 oz sugar
  • 6 egg whites, from large eggs, room temperature
  • 12 oz all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp corn starch
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp almond extract
    or 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 - 5 drops pink food coloring
    or 3 - 5 drops red food coloring

Buttercream

  • 12 oz unsalted butter, in pieces, softened to room temperature
  • 16 oz confectioners sugar
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream, room temperature
  • ½ tsp almond extract
