  • 120 g carrot, cut into pieces (approx. 3 cm) (optional)

  • 650 g milk
  • 200 g pouring (whipping) cream
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper, plus 3-4 pinches extra to serve
  • 2 pinches nutmeg
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp Dijon mustard
  • 3 - 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 250 - 280 g dried macaroni pasta (see Tips)
