Ingredients

  • 200 g brown onions, cut into quarters
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 20 g olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika
  • ½ - 1 tsp hot paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried marjoram
  • 300 g stewing beef, cut into 1 cm pieces (see Tips)
  • 20 g tomato paste
  • 400 g canned chopped tomatoes
  • 100 g carrot, cut into pieces (5 mm)
  • 130 g celery, cut into pieces (5 mm)
  • 180 g red capsicum, cut into pieces (1 cm)
  • 160 g potato, cut into cubes (1 cm)
  • 500 g water
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Chicken stock paste (see Tips)
  • 2 dried bay leaves
  • 2 - 3 allspice berries
  • fresh flat-leaf parsley, leaves only, for garnishing
  • fresh crusty bread, to serve (optional)
