Italian Excellence

All over the world Italy is known as the homeland of good food. It is, in fact, the European country with the greatest number of food products labeled with the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). Here are some of the most well-known Italian food products:

Parmigiano Reggiano Known as the “King of cheeses” due to its unique and inimitable taste. It has a history spanning nine centuries and is known for its taste, aroma and its artisan quality.

Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Produced since ancient Roman times, it is a condiment obtained from the fermentation of the grape must (freshly crushed grape juice) from selected vineyards. The grape must is then acetified in refined wooden casks. With its aromatic, sweet, and slightly acidic taste, its versatility intensifies dishes of every type, from starters to desserts.

Bronte Pistachios A symbol of what it means to be Sicilian, this particular variety of pistachio is an ingredient that is appreciated for its original taste and versatility in cooking and baking. From sweet to savory, its uses are infinite and always delicious.

Ribera Oranges Another Sicilian treasure - the blonde oranges of Ribera. Sweet and juicy, delicious as a refreshing fruit juice as well as extremely versatile when used in cooking.

Castelluccio di Norcia Lentils A precious and ancient legume of great quality and notable nutritional value. Its limited production throughout the year makes it a niche product with an unmistakable taste.

Buffalo Mozzarella The most famous Italian dairy product. It is soft, sweet, and slightly acidic all at the same time. It has a very unique taste and enjoying it in its pure form is truly an experience for the palate.

On Cookidoo® you can find a wide range of ideas and inspiration for cooking with and experiencing these excellent Italian products.
